Each rapid prototyping service has its own unique design rules that, if followed, will help you design very successful rapid prototypes. For precision CNC machining, there are a number of simple design rules that will often improve your CNC prototyping without adversely affecting the overall appearance or function of parts manufactured in small batches.
Hole depth is an example of a design technique. Try to keep the hole depth to diameter ratio at 10:1 or less for CNC machining. Anything deeper than this may require deep hole drilling process steps for further rapid prototyping techniques including: prototype injection moulding design techniques, vacuum casting design techniques (urethane moulding), 3D printing prototyping techniques (including SLA prototyping) and SLS prototype).
